Piecing Together a Changing Planet, 2014-2016

Traveling to ten national parks, including the Statue of Liberty National Museum, this exhibit will interpret climate change in textiles.  Here is a composite of works juried into the exhibit, created by Maya Schonenberger, the SAQA curator for this exhibit.  I will post my piece, Ginkgo: Extant or Extinct? by Dec. 7, the show opening at the Biscayne National Park.  Can you see the Ginkgo leaves in the composite?

Six Views in Fiber:

Along with five other South Florida fiber artists, Candice's artwork is part of the exhibit, Six Views in Fiber, at the Coconut Grove Art Festival Gallery.  She designed this postcard, above, which was used to publicize the exhibit by the artists and by the Gallery.  In addition, the gallery announcement described the exhibit as:

    "The quilts in this exhibition are contemporary in nature and do not necessarily follow the rules of traditional quilts. The artists who created these incredibly beautiful and unique quilts push the boundaries with their quilt art. They explore design, concepts and ideas in a distinctly different way of working from the traditional approach to the craft. Their creativity, sense of design and color, plus their close attention to detail and excellent craftsmanship honors the creative efforts evident in the entire spectrum of quilt making.  

    "Our artists' quilts have been exhibited locally, nationally and internationally and have been reproduced in many publications. We are especially proud of the number of top awards, honors, and special recognition they have received from prestigious regional, national, and international organizations.

    "The Artists represented in SIX VIEWS IN FIBER:   Melani Kane Brewer,  Andrea Huffman, Candice Phelan, Maya Schonenberger, Catherine Waltz, and Marianne R. Williamson."
