Local Community Support

Giving back and supporting others' efforts becomes magical when we can support our various communities in ways that merge our own interests and abilities with others' needs.  Following are selected ways that Candice has combined fiber and stitch for community support.

"I was honored to help facilitate the Welcome Home partnership between two organizations that support the local Palm Beach community:  The Palm Beach County Quilters' Guild and Habitat for Humanity - Palm Beach.  The Welcome Home Project presents local, hard-working Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach partner families with a beautiful quilted wall-hanging for their new homes.   Guild members design, make, and present 20 - 25 quilted wall-hanging a year at the home dedication ceremonies."

ConKerr Cancer - A Case for Smiles

ConKerr Cancer Pillowcases
Over 50 Pillowcases Ready for Delivery
ConKerr Cancer is an organization that brings a smile to hospitalized children.  Volunteers in chapters across the country make bright, colorful pillowcases that children can select to brighten up their hospital room and then take with them when they return home.  Many chapters bring sewing machines to hospitals and help the children make their own, or even make some for their Moms for Mother's Day.  Candice joins the "Florida Sewing Sewciety" in supporting this project, led by local coordinator, Marilyn Degler.  Here is a link to the ConKerr Cancer website.

Project First Day

Tee Shirts for Project First Day
As Joplin Missouri struggled to rebuild after a devastating 2011 tornado, Susan Stewart, a sewing designer, author, and teacher near Joplin, wanted to make Joplin's children's first day back at school special.  She reached out across the U.S. , asking others to make outfits for Joplin students to wear on that special first day.  Susan collected and distributed almost 1,500 outfits and their smiles lit up news media nation-wide.  Thanks, Susan - isn't it amazing what one person can do?

Candice's local sewing guild joined Susan's efforts, and Candice adapted several commercial embroidery designs and stitched a florescent electric guitar with the words, "Joplin Rocks" on thirty black or gray tee shirts.
